Meet Elliott

On July 19, 2022, you will have the opportunity to cast an important vote, which will determine who will represent Prince George’s County, Maryland, as Sheriff, in the Office of the Sheriff.  The Office of the Sheriff was established in 1696, by Maryland Colonial Governor Sir Francis Nichols. 

The Office of the Sheriff is an elected position with a four (4) year term.  The Sheriff is the Chief Law Enforcement Office in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The Office of the Sheriff is responsible for providing uniformed law enforcement services for the Maryland Circuit and District Courts, serving court-ordered writs, warrants, protective and peace orders and other processes issued by the Courts, and investigating and managing Domestic Violence related matters.  The Office of the Sheriff also performs a myriad of other community and public safety services.  

Chief Elliott W. Gibson, Sr., a Prince George’s County, Maryland resident for over 45 years, is a career law enforcement and public safety official in the Region.   I was born and raised in Washington, DC., and attended the public school system.  After graduating from Eastern Senior High School, I attended the University of the District of Columbia, Majoring in Criminal Justice Administration.

My professional career in public safety has spanned over 40 years.  This journey began with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C.  After graduating No. 1 in my class at the MPDC Police Training Academy, I was assigned to the Second Police District.  My duty assignments in public safety include:

  • Crime Scene Technician
  • Civil Service Patrol Sergeant
  • Supervisory Training Instructor/ MPDC Police Academy
  • Detective Lieutenant/ Commander/ Intelligence Division
  • Deputy Commander/ Captain/ First & Fourth District
  • Director of Training and Development/ Securitas Security Services
  • Vice President/ Project Manager/ DOD Contract Security
  • Director of Public Safety/ Bon Secours Hospital
  • Chief of Police/ City of District Heights/ MD
  • Chief of Police/ Town of Edmonston/ MD (Current)

As a candidate for the Office of the Sheriff, my resume has 40 years of professional experience, education and training in public service and accomplishments; too many to list.  On July 19, 2022, to ensure a well-respected, well trained, professional, customer-oriented Agency, I am respectfully requesting that the residents of Prince George’s County support me in my bid for Sheriff.  Vote, Elliott W.
